My name is Dr. Darwin Smith. I have a thriving practice, a lovely wife and two healthy, beautiful kids. Some people may think just because I’m a prominent doctor things have always been easy for me. In fact, the contrary is true.
You see, I came from a family in Vietnam, where it’s common for men to be of a shorter stature. Actually, no one really puts any focus on it. Well, that’s what my parents told me, anyway. My mother is 4’ 9”, and my father is only 5’ 2”. So, it’s only natural that I would also be short.
Being only 5’ 3”, I was taller than my father, but I still felt the need to be taller.
Besides being bullied all through school, the hardest challenge I ever went through was getting my wife to finally say yes to go out on a date with me.
To get her, I did everything a gentleman could possibly do. I sent her flowers and cards. I wrote her letters. I asked her out probably a hundred times, but she always turned me down. After high school ended, we went separate ways.
We met again about 5 years later. I still had a deep love for her that never faded. I asked her out again, and to my surprise, she said, YES! After dating for about a year and a half, we married. We were happy, but there was always a burning question I had in my mind.
Finally, I got enough courage to ask her. “Honey, why did you finally say yes to going out with me after I asked you so many times before?” Her face turned red!
With tears in her eyes, she said, “I’ve always had a complex about going out with short men. I just never found them to be attractive.
